The Hylek village is hurting. For years they’ve been sacrificing their champions, sending them to their deaths so that the sun god looks over their village. Not only have their “sacrifices” been providing undead soldiers for the dragons, but they’ve been getting rid of their biggest and best soldiers as well. This has left the little village in an odd position, petrified of losing the protection of the sun god, but probably unable to actually defend themselves if anything did attack them.

After a few months of side-tracking and playing through updates, it was finally time to continue on with the story. We’d proven ourselves as a member of the Vigil, but it was time to find out which of the smaller species were on our side, and which were helping the dragon and his army of Risen. The first group we decided to learn more about were the Hylek, the frog like people who you’ve probably come across at some time during your exploration of Tyria. Unfortunately, they’re not huge fans of outsiders.

Defiance is not a free game. It's buy to play, and in most buy-to-play MMOs, I never feel like purchasing an extra. I have to admit it was never my intention to purchase an item in Defiance at such an early stage. For me, the first three months in any MMO is an early stage to consider purchasing a (Premium) item. In Defiance, I was alwats going to break my own rule. In this third episode of the Defiance Diary, I start with RM Nomad V6 Camo because I knew it would be fun! 

ArenaNet have managed it – the most underwhelming episode of Flame and Frost so far. While other updates have added a variety of new missions, events or features, Retribution seems to offer very little to the single player gamer. In fact, if you want to get technical, it adds absolutely nothing at all. A single mission, the Molten Weapon Facility, will have you team up with four others to run a dungeon, although once again there are no single player options. This will be especially annoying to those who have thus far managed to play alone.

In the story of Defiance, the Arkfall is one of the milestones in Pale Wars between the Humans and the Votans. The Pale Wars took seven years after the assassination of the Votan ambassador on TV and it shifted focus in another direction in 2030 when the first Arkfall event occurred. The original arkfall event was the explosion of the Ark Fleet in orbit. Noone knew who did it but it changed the biosphere permanently. Arkfalls periodically continued since then and in this episode, we'll claim our first Arkfall.
