A Realm Reborn Attracts a Million to its Beta

in Final Fantasy 14, News

Square Enix have announced that they've had a million registrations for the beta of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. This more or less confirms that most people are willing to at least give them the benefit of the doubt in regards to their being able to fix all the issues found in the original Final Fantasy XIV.

Of course, a million people is also pretty successful in its own right, and it's a great sign of things to come.

The original game was met with very negative reactions from more or less everybody that played it, and even the early information to come out of the beta was by and large negative. That things are mainly positive, and that so many people will get to see that come the open beta, says that there may just be life in the second Final Fantasy MMO yet.

Of course, there are a few things to watch out for in this story. First and foremost, this is a million registrations. That doesn't necessarily mean that a million people have played or even gained access to the beta. It means that a million people are interested enough to fill in a form on the internet.

Secondly, we don't know if these are unique registrations or if this is 100,000 people with ten email addresses each. In fact, it's fair to presume that this isn't unique registrations because it wouldn't at all benefit Square to release that information. My girlfriend and I, although registering from the same address for use over the same systems, count as two seperate people.

This is fair, in this case at least, because of the eventual subscriptions involved.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a decent MMO that does little to seperate itself from the croud (aside from it being a Final Fantasy game, that is), but it's still well worth checking out. For our full impressions, take a look at our Beta Impressions piece.
