RIFT Goes Free To Play on June 12th

Trion Worlds have good news for MMO fans. The highly popular MMO game RIFT will be going free to play on June 12, 2013. The free to play transformation means that all players will be able to explore the entire world of Telara without paying. RIFT's f2p launch is going to be arriving the same day the new content update 2.3 Empyreal Assault will go live. Read on for first details and the free to play trailer.

RIFT Free to Play arrives June 12th

Don't tell me you knew it already, or that you thought it was inevitable. Ok, well, it was one of the titles everyone guessed would become free to play. We have seen SWTOR, TERA, and some other titles choosing the same path earlier this year and it has worked out just fine for them. So it is maybe a safe path for publishers. We will see how that works out for RIFT. I believe, the free to play transformation ensures userbase growth, the rest is up to the developers. In case they get the balance of the game right, micro-transactions work well for them and players don't complain. At the end of the day, it becomes a challenge for the developer to keep the growing community playing and bring in new players, while generating enough revenue to keep the game going. If one of these fail, it's game over.

Subscribers of the game will also see added benefits such as special bonuses to currency, mounts speed and bonus experience and tokens.
