Ubisoft Announce Tom Clancy's The Division

in News

At tonight's 2013 E3 Ubisoft press conference, a new entry in the Tom Clancy franchise was announced: Tom Clancy's The Division. This new action MMO will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014. Set in a world destroyed by a global pandemic, you play as part of a relatively small group of suvivors (IE the players) who must race around a realistic New York, trying to scavenge supplies, fight other players and save civilians. It looks absolutely fantastic.

The gameplay showed of the division had a small group raiding a police station that had found its way into enemy hands. After rushing the police station and taking out a small wave of enemies, using the latest technology to see through walls (and a friend with a tablet to control a remote vehicle), the team rescues the police held hostage and, as a reward, gets a stash of weapons. Weapons don't come cheap, and nothing displays this more than the attack from other players as the team are waiting to be evacuated from the scene.

New York is beautifully made, and although they've yet to announced just how all-consuming it is, it'll be big enough to house hundreds if not thousands of players, all of whom either want you dead or who may be willing to team up with you in the hopes of surviving just that little bit longer. Missions will have you making your way across the city, although more will be revealed about that at a later date.

Similar in theme to the long awaited and critically acclaimed Watch Dogs, The Division will be an entirely new kind of MMO designed specifically for consoles. It won't be the last.
