Blacklight Retribution: Achievement Guide

Blacklight Retribution Achievement GuideAchievements have become a really important part of gaming and this is no truer than in the MMO genre. This week Blacklight Retribution is making its way onto Steam and as well as the convenience of having it amongst all your other PC games and the fact that the developers are celebrating with the release of a new map and a new game mode, they’re adding achievements for those that want to do almost everything available in the game. Knowing that there are people out there with a love of achievements but without the time or energy to spend hours trying to get them without help, we thought we’d put together a short achievement guide which will hopefully help you towards 100% before you know it.

Kill Confirmed video

Note: I’ve done a couple of the following and not actually received the achievement for it. Thankfully, they’re not a big deal and no doubt the achievement will unlock at some point in the future (or after it’s been fixed, if need be).

Welcome to Blacklight

When you first join the game you’ll be offered a chance to complete the tutorial. It takes a few minutes and just runs through the various things you can do in-game. If you’ve never played a PC FPS, this is a must, but even seasoned veterans can net an achievement by completing the tutorial.

Your First Time…
Killing Spree
Death Dealer
Walking Dead Man

All of the above are rewarded based upon the number of kills you’ve made. You need 1, 10, 100 and 1000 respectively. Now consider that the average player probably gets around 10 kills in a game, it’s fair to say that you’ll need to partake in and complete 100 games to get to that top achievement. On the other hand, a really great player will be scoring about double that, so it entirely depends on how good (or not) your shooting is.

Lost Their Minds

Another one that’s come with time, this achievement is awarded for getting 100 headshots. Headshots are easy enough to get, just make sure you’re tapping the trigger, rather than holding it down and your accuracy will increase tenfold. If you’re not entirely confident that you can pull off the headshot, make sure only to try if you’ve got time to correct if you miss, otherwise hunting this achievement will really hammer your K/D Ratio.

Pickup Gamer

You get this for playing a public match, although this is actually the achievement that I wasn’t awarded. I’d say there are early Steam-issues at this point that will be fixed over the next couple of weeks, because, for instance, things like clicking “quick game” doesn’t seem to work. There’s also apparently not ranked matches, which makes the next achievement also impossible to get.

In It to Win It

Play a ranked match, or at least that would be the goal if you could. Every time I’ve tried the ranked match option today I’ve been told there aren’t any, but getting this achievement once everything is sorted should be easy enough.

Joe Frazier the Hell Raiser

When close to an enemy, hit the middle mouse button to use your melee attack. Use it on an enemy 50 times and this achievement is all yours. Use the melee to get you out of a tight spot or to even the odds in close quarters.

Weekend Warrior
Mechanized Warrior
Weapon of Mass Destruction

Blacklight Retribution boasts a type of mechanized armour called a hard suit which, if you watched the video accompanying this guide you’ll know, absolutely obliterates everything on the playing field when controlled by the right sort of person. Get your hands on one of these and you’ll not only be top of the leaderboard, but also on the right track for three achievements. Get 10, 100 and 1000 kills respectively to earn these three achievements.

Boom! Headshot!

There’s no way you won’t get this achievement while going for ‘Weapon of Mass Destruction’, but if you don’t fancy going for 1000 kills with the Hard suit, simply get 10 headshots while in the suit and you’ll be awarded this achievement.

Mechanic

The Hard suits can take an awful lot, but if you want to boost their effectiveness (and the likelihood of you winning the match) be ready to repair a friendly suit to gain both friends and achievements.

Juicer
Field Medic
Dr Feel Good

Feeling a little under the weather? Got too many bullets in your bones? The healing skill gives you the edge you need to fight back one more time, but do it enough (10, 100 and 1000 times respectively) and you’ll find yourself with two shiny achievements.

Welcome Back!
Miracle Max
Necromancer

When you have the revive skill and have bought use for the day (using in-game currency GP, not real money) you can revive killed team members. It’s a good way to rack up experience and a helpful way of earning two achievements for reviving 1, 10 and 100 teammates respectively. Don’t you feel better about yourself?

Sapper
Are You Still There…?
Holding the Line

Steam is a Valve platform after all, so where would we be without the Portal references? Simply destroy 10 enemy turrets and you’ll be rewarded with both the ‘Sapper’ and ‘Are You Still There…?’ achievements. If you want to help your own team more directly, on the other hand, you’ll be required to repair a friendly turret, and the ‘Holding the Line’ achievement will be yours.

Fixer-Upper

Like the other repair achievements, you just need to get yourself into a position to repair a barricade. It only takes one to get this achievement, although personally I’ve never been in a position to do it, myself.

You Seem to Have Dropped This…
Cleaning Crew

This is for destroying enemy equipment. Blast away 1 and 10 respectively and the achievement should pop up and complete your collection
