Uncovering Mysteries in The Secret World
Funcom's The Secret World is unique in many ways. Surely the game is also similar to many MMO's in terms of combat (arguably) and questing but there are no classes, no levels and little constraints. I will be sharing my own view of the MMORPG and its unique features in the next few weeks. Today, I will discuss the investigation missions. If you have ever enjoyed playing adventure games, you will find pieces in The Secret World that will make you want to purchase the game at the drop of a hat. Read on to see what I am talking about.
What's special about The Secret World: Investigation Missions
On a mission in Kingsmouth, you spot quite a lot of corpses around. At the corner of the park, in front of a house, or right by an attacked vehicle, there is no shortage of dead in this town. This is one of the aspects of The Secret World, made me remember point and click adventure games from the previous decade. Adventures games were my favorite. I still dig adventure games but it’s hard to find one, especially if you play MMO games all the time.
The Secret World gives you a fine taste of old-school point and click adventure games. You look for objects, you uncover mysteries and you explore and investigate...
One of the missions in Kingsmouth when I played the game last night, was “Dirty Laundry”. A cleaning lady lied on the edge of a park and she had a phone in her hand, and a message flashing on the screen. Are you already curious? If not, there are so many investigation type missions that simply attracts a fan of adventure games like myself. Thanks to Funcom, you are able to accept multiple missions at the same time because it really is hard to resist accepting such missions.
In the message on her phone, it reads “Find the hidden keypad and enter the code. The code is the first song he will sing on Sunday.”
As meaningless as this may sound to you. It’s not really that hard to figure it out, if you read and then investigate carefully. You can see how I figured it out in the video (Spoiler Alert!)
These kinds of investigation quests are really entertaining and hopefully if Funcom adds new quests with content updates, The Secret World may become popular among the fans of adventure games (like myself) too.
