End of Nations is a MOBA Now
End of Nations was going to be the greatest MMORTS game ever. Why? Because it was actually an RTS, as opposed to the asyncronous time-wasters that usually make up the MMORTS genre. Well, no anymore. The developers behind End of Nations have rebranded the game as a MOBA, calling it the first MOBA RTS.
Why have they done it, and what does it mean for what was one of the most promising games of the last year?
It was pretty obvious that things were going bad for End of Nations after their website went untouched for months on end. Several of the staff behind the game were laid off, and nobody spoke about it. After a few very successful beta tests, it all petered out without so much as an announcement. It basically went from "See you in the New Year" to... well, nothing.
That may have something to do with the reimagining of End of Nations, and perhaps they even had some negative feedback from the beta which particularly struck a chord, but for whatever reason they decided that End of Nations, as it was, was not fit for general release.
The Future of End of Nations
From the offiical End of Nations website:
End of Nations® is a tactical MOBA where your success on the battlefield depends on the heroes and units you command and quick decision making in the heat of combat. Dominate during team-based matches and catapult your commander to the top of the ranks.
Before, it was a straight RTS game with MMO elements. There were a number of different game types, including small defensive 4v4 maps and bigger battles. Now it seems like they've introduced a set of characters - includuing Sidewinder, The Judge and Col. Boze - for you to play as game to game. There might not be any persistance, there may not be any other game modes. It might just be Transformers: The MOBA.
Which is fine, it just isn't what we all expected from the beta last year.
