Star Trek Online: No Romulan Faction in the near future

Star Trek Online's producer Dan Stahl answered more community questions yesterday in this month's Ask Cryptic. One of the top questions by the community was regarding the addition of Romulan Faction. Dan Stahl explained why it is not an easy job to implement the faction and hinted that it would not be coming in near future patches. He also said that Starbase feature projects are going to be cheaper in 2013 and there will be more customization tools for the exterior of the bases. Monthly community QA is something every MMO developer must have. Instead of watching the community get frustrated over a couple of topics on message boards for months, developers answer the questions regularly. This is a win-win for everyone and we have to give credit to the team at Star Trek Online and particularly the producer of the game Dan Stahl for doing this every month. This month's Ask Cryptic for Star Trek Online covers a lot of the future of the MMO. Let's look at some of the highlights.

First and probably one of the top questions was about the presence of a Romulan Faction in the future. Dan Stahl explained the complexions of this kind of an implementation and hinted that fans will have to wait a while before they see the faction in game. 

If we were to make a Romulan Faction, we would want them to have their own storyline and mission structure as well as their own ships so that it would feel different than playing a FED or KDF character.

So what can we expect in the next few months? Stahl answered a similar question regarding the near-future updates. There is a Winter Event that is scheduled for early December. This even is going to offer a limited time ship and the event is going to feature new prizes and fun contests such as the PvP snowball fights.

More customization options for Star Trek Online's starbases in 2013

And in January, a modern Federation Andorian ship, which Stahl says that it looks amazing, is going to arrive.

Come February, the 3 Year Anniversary ship rewards will come along with the next lock box ship and more missions related to Season 7. 

Another good news for the fans of the Starbases and customization, Stahl says they will be adding new options that will allow players to design their Starbases, especially the exterior sides. 

We would really like to see some alternate styles and varieties to exteriors, but it will probably be Season 9 or later before we’ll see anything new in this area.
