WHY DO WE PLAY GAMES?

Life is a game. Think about it. Everything we work for, every goal we set, the way we develop, the way we learn and all sorts of aspects of life are similar to the way the games are built.

When do we enjoy life? When we entertain... 

Entertainment is why we play games. Let's not forget about this. 

I have been playing games for over 20 years and I have always played games for one purpose. To entertain. Unfortunately, I see more and more players in online games that play for another purpose. Their goal is to win. The game itself doesn't have to be entertaining for these players as long as they win. I believe this is being too competitive...

When you are too competitive and only care about results, you lose your gamer spirit. We are not doing business here. The idea is to play a game.

From Webster Dictionary:

Definition of Game: activity engaged in for diversion or amusement.

Amusement. 

Now you may ask me this question; "Why do you assume those players are not amusing themselves when they play to win only." 

That is true. I don't know. However, I am not assuming anything. I am only trying to make a point here. We should be playing games to amuse ourselves. 

Let's consider a team based game. You create a team or join one. Team wants to win and you are happy when the team reaches this goal. Right? Wrong!

I have seen so many teams/clans that fight all day long, argue about how a player has ruined their match in an important tournament or league.

This is a big problem for the gaming community. The community is forgetting the fact that 'Games are there for us to amuse ourselves, not to try and win only like businessmen.'

Can you not win and entertain at the same time?

Sure you can. That is the idea! If you can find a way to achieve both at the same time without ruining your entertainment, then you will find games to be more entertaining and relaxing.

There is a balance here. Without the exploits in games (every game has a few) your chances are lower to win and win but with the right balance you can be satisfied of your gaming performance and amuse yourself at the same time. This is how you win! 

Do yourself a favor tomorrow and play your favorite games only to amuse yourself and forget about winning.
