LEGO Minifigures MMO to be developed by Funcom

It's not about The Secret World this time, but it's about Funcom. Today, the developer announced that it  has signed a license agreement with the LEGO Group to develop a LEGO MMO game based on the LEGO MiniFigures franchise. The MMO will be a part of the LEGO Minifigures online experience and will be browser based to maximize accessibility.

​The LEGO Group estimates 340 million LEGO Minifigures to be produced in 2012, whether it's a knight in shining armor, a firefighter or anything that you can imagine. For a long time, LEGO has been one of the figures that has been adored by generations. Just for that reason alone, an MMO based on LEGO could always work, if done right.

Funcom's upcoming MMO based on LEGO® Minifigures franchise will feature maximum accessibility. This means it's going to be browser based and most probably UNITY based, but we don't want to speculate yet.

Funcom and the LEGO Group will collaborate to make it a fun experience for players online. According to Funcom's press release, the game will be a part of the LEGO® Minifigures online experience which already has millions of unique visitors per month.

“The market for family-friendly online experiences intended for children and youngsters is brimming with potential,” says Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas.
