SWTOR production cost revealed
We have been writing all sorts of pre-production and post-production news on Star Wars The Old Republic. The budget of the production has been estimated to be around $100-300 million and it was not that bad of a guesstimate. Continue reading for all the numbers.
According to the latest post on LA Times Star Wars The Old Republic's production costed nearly $200 million. The production that took about 6 years features 1,600 hours of story with nearly 1,000 actors voice acting in three languages for a total of 4,000 characters.
Over 400 designers, programmers and artists has been working on SWTOR but the game is not a 100% product of Texas. Parts of the production has been outsourced to countries like Romania which they do the QA testing, while there are also teams in Argentina, India, London and Paris.
The game was created at a 60,000 square foot warehouse in Austin, Texas. As the game industry has been growing at a steady rate, it's not a surprise that the producers of the game are willing to create other products as well. The director of Bioware Rich Vogel said:
“We want to do to other video games what talkies did to silent films,”
No doubt, this giant production will continue to be the most discussed MMO game in 2012. SWTOR will always be compared with World of Warcraft which has generated over $3 billion in profit in the last 7 years. Will it be able to beat WoW? That's a question we can answer at least 5-6 years later, not today...
