World of Mapcraft: Google mapped WoW

Google Maps is one of the most useful tools. How would you like to use Google Maps in an MMO? Well, Glitch developer Cal Henderson thought it was a good idea to make a Google Maps version of World of Warcraft's Azeroth. See the result when you read on.
World of Warcraft in Google Maps - World of Mapcraft
Cal Henderson the co-founder of Glitch developer Tiny speck has been using a map of Azeroth made with Google Map API until December 2011. As the developer of MapWoW stopped updating the map with the latest additions to the MMORPG, he thought it was time to come up with his own Google Map for World of Warcraft, and we're all glad he did.

The result is fascinating. Henderson extracted the textures from World of Warcraft's files and managed to put them together using Google Maps API. Now we have a fantastic and detailed map of Azeroth using Google Maps API.
He didn't stop at making the map of World of Warcraft main world, he also went into mapping battlegrounds, dungeons and raids too.
"So I had the main world maps, but there were a lot more folders full of images. Alongside the maps I'd already found were a handful of battlegrounds, dungeons and raids, but not nearly all of them. Of the ones that were there, some were pretty odd, like this map of the Black Temple."
In his blog, he explains the whole process of building the World of MapCraft using WoW's files and Google's Maps API.

He has also written a list of Random WoW Facts which is really interesting if you are a WoW fan:
- Karazhan has had several different spellings.
- Scholomance was originally called School of Necromancy (or the Ruined keep crypt).
- Deepholm was originally called Deephome.
- Ragefire Chasm, presumably one of the first built instances, is simply called "Orgrimmar Lava Dungeon" in the world files.
