Guild Wars 2 Launches

Guild Wars 2 launch

It's Guild Wars 2 time!

It's the most anticipated MMO of the year, if not "the game"... ArenaNet who has been working on the game for the last 5 years is now ready to launch the MMORPG that will most probably change the standards and open the gate to the new generation of Massively Multiplayer Games. Today is the game's official launch, three days after the head-start which saw 400k concurrent users playing the MMO.

1 million players

Over 1 million players tried to get a head-start when the game's Early Access launched last weekend. Of course, with over 1 million Guild Wars 2 fans trying to connect to the servers came complications. ArenaNet's community guys had long nights without sleep, trying to help players who ran into problems during launch. We also monitored the common issues with Guild Wars 2 and compiled a quick to follow list here. That was still nothing like one of those launch-scandals and kudos to ArenaNet, they were incredibly active on social media, helping every individual directly.

We don't know how many orders NCSoft has taken over the weekend but it wouldn't be a wild guess that they have added another 100k players.

The launch is one thing but maintaining the game is another. If Guild Wars 2 is going to be a WoW killer as some of the fans believe, to make that happen, ArenaNet and NCSoft still have a mountain to climb.

ArenaNet's president is aware of this. He said “But really our work is just beginning. Now our focus is shifting to building on this living world we’ve delivered, continuously refining our game and improving services to ensure our players have the best possible experience”.

Developed to Perfection

So it's only a matter of hours until we have our hands on Guild Wars 2 and this time, it's not a stress-test that's been going on in the last few weeks. With all the stress-tests and rendering optimization technologies like Umbra 3, ArenaNet seems to have done everything in its power to ensure the quality of the MMORPG.

5 years of development

ArenaNet has been perfectionist during the development stage of the MMORPG. 5 years of development and according to the founder of the company, they have not settled for "Good Enough."

“Five years ago we set out to develop a game that finally fulfilled the promise of online worlds”, said O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet. “We questioned everything that had previously been taken for granted and we never settled for ‘good enough’. Now, we’re finally ready to introduce Guild Wars 2 to gamers who are looking for the next evolution in online gaming”.

Some of the key-features of Guild Wars 2:

Dynamic Events: The game is a living, breathing world and eveything that players do reflects onto the world. Because of this system,  cooperation between players is encouraged and everyone who participates is rewarded. It's all natural!

Personal Stories: Each players will feel that they have their own customised personal story that begins when they first create their character, and what happens next will be unknown to anyone.

Action-Oriented Combat: It's all about action! Combat is all about timing and movement skills. You have to be in control at all times. Well-timed dodges or combo attacks are integral to any battle. There won't be any class-based limitations.

Player vs. Player and World vs. World: There are two exciting modes. The PvP serves up intense small-unit combat that focuses on skill and strategy and the World vs. World is all about players facing each other in a two-week-long war on a series of huge maps.
