Aion: Free to play launch next week
European players, you are lucky. Aion is going free to play next Tuesday in Europe, Gameforge has announced earlier today. Three localized version, German, French and English language version will switch to free to play and everyone will be able to join the action in Atreia.
Another game switching to the popular business model "free to play". This time it's one of the big titles, Aion Online. Gameforge today announced in its latest press release, that European players who speak French, German and English will be able to sign up for free from next Tuesday, February 28th.

The subscribers will receive compensation coins from Aion when the free to play transition is complete.
“The response we received from the beta players on our free-to-play model was fantastic,” said Volker Boenigk, Executive Product Director and Andreas Günter, Product Director for AION. “We can’t wait for the launch so that we can finally offer the game to a broader gaming audience. In the upcoming months our focus will be on working on update 3.0, which we will be launching in Europe in the spring”.
Previous subscribers will receive a premium currency voucher
Every player with remaining play time on their account, who transfers the account to the Gameforge servers before the 27th of February 2012 will receive six AION Coins (the game’s premium currency) per game day in their account as compensation. The coins can be spent in the item shop from the 28th of February onwards.
