Which MMO to play first thing tomorrow morning?

We don't know about your plans for tonight but if you plan to turn your computer on first thing in the morning -with or without a massive headache- and logon to your favorite MMO game, we have a few guesses to what you will be playing.

New year, new year... Celebrations will go on all night (well, for some people) as we enter 2012 with great expectations and as an MMO gamer, we hope to play better games than 2011. Not that we didn't play any games in the last 365 days.

League of Legends, Rift, and in the last week of the year, Star Wars The Old Republic. These games should continue to be the giants in 2012. We can not ignore the king, World of Warcraft, despite the drop in subscriptions.

World of Tanks has been one of the biggest surprises of the year. Who would have expected such a big success from that one? We now know that Wargaming is working on a new combat-MMO following the huge success of WOT. We are looking forward to playing World of Warplanes.

Early 2011 we wrote about UNITY 3D here. The game engine that allowed players to enjoy MMO gaming in their web browsers. That will continue to grow, surely. Battlestar Galactica Online, Drakensang, Juggernaut these games have been two of the best UNITY 3D games. UNITY 3D will continue to rock as they will also support Flash applications. This will allow all the flash games developers to take their games to UNITY platform. 

Browser games will definitely continue to spread in 2012. The development of HTML5 and UNITY 3D engine will help MMO industry to continue growing. We are yet to see a decent HTML5 game but expect loads of MMOs in Q1.

Star Trek Online will be the next game to become free-to-play in the first month of 2012. The free-to-play model, as proven with the latest researches regarding in-game revenues, will be used by most developers in 2012. 

Lord of the Rings Online will have new content updates early 2012 following the fantastic Rise of Isengard expansion.
