Guild Wars 2 World vs WorldWe’ve played a lot of the story in these Guild Wars 2 diaries, or have looked at expansions and side quests. That was done on purpose, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the World Vs World is dominated by people who know what they’re doing and, secondly, it feels so much more directionless than the main game. The minute I log out, the world vs world servers carry on without me, for better or for worse. It’s a great idea, but not as easy to cover in a weekly diary. For that reason, this week we stepped into the mists, sword in hand, to take on our rival worlds in battle.

The Secret of SouthsunThe Secret of Southsun came only a few weeks after the last part of The Frost and Flame, a fact that had some people worried. How can there be suitable content after so little time? Thankfully, ANet have proven the naysayers wrong by delivering not only a suitable amount of additional content for the Living Story, but perhaps the most new single player content since the Living Story began. There’s also some new fixes and a change to the World Vs World. There’s a lot to see this update, but will you want to see it?

mmo fatigue in guild wars 2We’ve all been there and in every MMO, there comes a point where you no longer feel the momentum of the story, you no longer fancy running random events with strangers and you just stand back and say “well, what’s this game got left for me?” After over 8 months of playing Guild Wars 2 on a weekly basis, I’ve come to this point. How do you stop from feeling Guild Wars 2 fatigue? What do you do when you’re feeling bored? In this week’s diary, we find the answer, and take a look at some of the natural beauty within Tyria.

It may be less than a fortnight since we first started searching for the Secret of Southsun, but that hasn’t stopped ANet announcing another Guild Wars 2 expansion for the end of the month. If Last Stand at Southsun is any indication of how things are going to progress, the move to bi-weekly updates is going to do nothing to lower the amount of content we should expect.

Available from May 28th, this is one of the biggest Living Story updates yet. How much it will appeal to you depends entirely on how you play and who you play with.

no more renown heart questsThe Hylek have recognised you as their new champion and have realized that they’ve done nothing but fed the dragon’s war machine all this time. They turn to you for guidance, they turn to you for protection – that might end up being their biggest mistake. In this week’s Guild Wars diary, we watch as a village burns under a Risen attack, and we examine the usefulness of Renown Heart quests. Are you still doing them? Still aiming for 100%?

chosen of the sun - hylek villageThe Hylek village is hurting. For years they’ve been sacrificing their champions, sending them to their deaths so that the sun god looks over their village. Not only have their “sacrifices” been providing undead soldiers for the dragons, but they’ve been getting rid of their biggest and best soldiers as well. This has left the little village in an odd position, petrified of losing the protection of the sun god, but probably unable to actually defend themselves if anything did attack them.

After a few months of side-tracking and playing through updates, it was finally time to continue on with the story. We’d proven ourselves as a member of the Vigil, but it was time to find out which of the smaller species were on our side, and which were helping the dragon and his army of Risen. The first group we decided to learn more about were the Hylek, the frog like people who you’ve probably come across at some time during your exploration of Tyria. Unfortunately, they’re not huge fans of outsiders.
