Genre Changing Game DayZI’ve yet to play the massively popular ARMA II mod DayZ. I’ve seen guides on how to do it and it just looks like a chore, especially when you consider that it’s today officially been announced as going standalone. Over the next few weeks we’ll discover exactly when we’ll be able to get our dirty mitts on DayZ: The Non-Mod Version and how much it’ll cost. As it stands though, you’re expected to buy a game (actually an add-on, you can play the mod with the free-to-play version of the base game and the Operation Arrowhead add-on) and then tinker endlessly to get the mod itself working.

Best MOBA GamesIt’s difficult to try and suggest one MOBA game over another to other people without hours and hours of experience, measuring minute differences and playing with every character available, at least to a decent level. Of course, there are people that actually do that, who write guides and test balancing and a whole manner of things that I wouldn’t even know how to begin with. What more casual players of the genre look at – and there are casual players, really there are – are graphics, ease of use and community. DOTA Strategy GuideI’m going to continue our MOBA/DotA/Action-RTS themed week by offering a few hints and tips on how to win in a genre that is so, so dedicated to winning. If you’re new to playing something like League of Legends, Defence of the Ancients or Heroes of Newerth, you’d be forgiven for thinking that all MOBA players hate you and want you to leave. That’s certainly the case for some people who are quite keen to keep the genre a secret, but for the most part they just want to help you become the best player you can. Over the past few weeks, I’ve played an awful lot of this sort of game and I now feel like I’m in a position to offer a little bit of advice. This is not a DotA Guide but hopefully some of it will help you to become someone not afraid of random insults, although I wouldn’t dream of guaranteeing anything.
