I was half disappointed when I started looking into Allods Online. Most World of Warcraft clones make some effort to differentiate themselves from their “influence,” but the first thing I saw was orks and quest marks. The graphics were pretty, the textures I would say are nicer than World of Warcraft, but ultimately it didn’t seem a million miles away from things that we’ve seen before – usually by developers with much more financial backing. So I was surprised to load the game up for the first time and find that, actually, it’s has some very interesting design choices. Almost from the get-go, before you even create your character.

As a seasoned MMORPG player, I've seen my fair share of quality games and a few lower-scoring experiences that have only a few slight problems in execution that hold them back from true excellence in the genre. So when I came in to Aika Online review. I was checking all of the ins and outs of the game to see just how far the game raises itself in its measurement. Only this time, it was a bit more on the sore side than the good side for once.

"Thirst of Night is perhaps my favourite example of this genre that I’ve seen".

My first reaction to Thirst of Night was something along the lines of “boy, another strategy game, huh?” Regular readers of DevilsMMO will know that I wasn’t especially impressed with 1100AD or 8Realms, both games that were very capable for what they were but that I felt would be a little underwhelming to MMO-exclusive players.
