And so we've come to this: the final Guild Wars 2 diary of 2012. What better way of ending a great year than by summoning a dead pirate and playing medic on a bloody battlefield? It’s all important work and somebody has to do it! Of course, it’s also a good time to look forward at 2013, and to think about the challenges and triumphs we have to look forward to in Guild Wars 2 during the coming year. Is there enough to look forward to? Is Guild Wars 2 still worth your time and money? In this week’s diary, we decide.
There’s a topic I light-heartedly broached a few weeks ago - in our World of Warcraft Achievements article, I suggest you take a look - that has been on my mind since I mentioned it. Gaming addiction, specifically those most at risk for MMORPG addiction, has been and still is a very hot topic in the industry. Is it a real thing? Can people die from gaming addiction, like they can from alcohol or addiction to other drugs? Can gaming ruin lives? It’s not a topic that I believe we’ve discussed in the past, so hopefully this will help dispel some myths and make us all understand a little better the risks (if there are any) of gaming to excess.
It’s Christmas time in Guild Wars 2 and there are a ton of events to explore and Christmassy people to meet. Before getting to that though, I thought we’d give a Christmas gift of our own: a look at the 3D capabilities of Guild Wars 2. This is a feature that’s been criminally under-covered since launch, and it’s a feature that adds an awful lot to the Guild Wars 2 experience. How do you get it? Is there a way to play in 3D if you have an AMD card? Is it even worth it? And because we really are generous, we have two videos this week: one showing off the power of 3D and our regular feature in 2D. Don’t we spoil you, huh?
