Please share your tips and hints for the popular space MMO shooter based on one of the most successful Scientific Fiction series on TV; Battlestar Galactica.
Mining for resources in Battlestar Galactica Online
When you first start the game as a recruit ,you should keep an eye on your resources. Jumping to other regions and looking for useful resources through asteroid mining is one way to find resources. However you should not jump without thinking first. Jumping also costs you resources. Before mining, you might upgrade your ship in order to mine more efficiently.
The main currency in game is cubits. And if you can not buy them directy, you can try asteroid mining to make some cubits. Get yourself a scanner device. This device will detect the asteroids with resources. Red asteroids have no resources while the blue ones have water, yellow ones have Tylium and the purple ones contain Titanium. With your weapons you can destroy and collect but there is a better way to collect these resources: Mining cannons will quickly get you the resources.
You need to learn many skills to be able to operate some of the advanced weapons. You will not be able to buy and install advanced items if you don't have got what it takes to operate them. Make sure you inspect required skills for items and start learning the most required skills.
Sometimes it is best to avoid a battle. If you are being targeted by a powerful enemy, maybe it is best to try and run away. Jumping will be delayed but you might still try it. Avoid missiles and fly opposite direction to avoid the enemy. They may just give up chasing you anyway.
Ship size matters but there are always ways to take down an enemy that is larger than you. What you need to do is to prepare yourself for the battle. Choose the upgrades right, choose the right combination of items and make sure you know about the ship you are about to attack. But before anything else to consider, you should first check your enemy level. The higher the level is the enemy or the group of enemies, the harder it will be take it(them) down.
Aesir is a heavy interceptor line ship for Colonial. If you have enough Cubits for an Aesier (also requires a minimum of level 20) , go for it. The upgrades will cost around 50-100k Cubits.
Vanir on the other hand costs about 2 million Tylium and it also requires a minimum of level 20.
The upgrades for Vanir is up to 60k Cubits. By design it has a twin-hull and multiple sensor. This is what makes Vanir effective. It supports more computer systems than any other line ship. However it's hull recovery is slowed than Aesir's. Consider these before you get one these.

If you ask my opinion, go for Aesir at first.
