Eightsquared introduced in Otherland's new developer video

in News, Otherland

Otherland MMOGamigo has released the 3rd part of Making Of Otherland video series. This new video introduces the medieval simulation "Eightsquared". The world is filled with Victorian architecture and gigantic chess pieces floating in the sky. Another cool bit is the lifecycle AI and the realistic behaviour of NPC's. Otherland - Making Of Part 3 introduces Eightsquared

Eightsquared is a countryside and a chess-board (you'll see what that means in the video) in Otherland as described by developers at RealU. It's a fantasy setting.

In this new developer video, we see the devs introducing us to the "Eightsquared". There is also the dicussion of the NPC's in Otherland MMO that behave like a real person. Devs explain this with a Fisherman example. In Otherland, apparently a Fisherman NPC will be going to fishing and then he won't be standing there all day but go to the market to sell fish.

Lifecycle AI and realistic NPC's

The life-cycle of NPC's sound really interesting. We know from many MMO games that NPC's are usually lifeless robots. If Otherland's NPC's are really that full of life, that should really enrich the environment. What's better is that players will also be interacting with these NPC's and affecting their regular activities.

Who is good, who's bad?

Another feature that developers try to explain in the video is the decisions players will have to make. Imagine two armies battling and you initially don't know which side is good and which side is bad. Players will have to figure this out themselves.
