NCSoft Will End City Of Heroes
Three weeks ago we posted an article about the effort by City of Heroes fans to try and save their beloved game. We knew it was quite a dream to expect NCSoft to suddenly change its decision and let City of Heroes live for maybe another year. Unfortunately, today the publisher made a very cold and plain announcement that simply repeats what it said before. City of Heroes WILL be shut down soon in its eigth year of existence. Read on for the announcement.
NCSoft Won't Step Back, City of Heroes Shutting Down For Sure
It was wishful thinking but we posted this article a few days after City of Heroes fans launched their protest against NCSoft's decision to shut down City of Heroes. All we could do was to hope for the best as there were thousands of fans out there who had spent up to eight years of their lives in this MMO. The game which was released back in 2004 was going to be shut down. It's hard to sympathize from the outside but we all have been there with a game or two. You play the game for years, you wake up in the morning, you meet with your friends in game, on Voice Servers, you schedule your weekends accordingly. And one day, the publisher announces that your game, your character and everything you have in game would come to an end. It's just like that. I guess we just have to live with that.
Obviously, NCSoft has had a hard time to make such an announcement when they know absolutely no one would be happy about it. The company claims that it has even tried to sell the studio and the rights to the game itself. I don't know when and under what condition they did this but I wouldn't expect another firm to buy a game in a coffin waiting for the final nail. It just doesn't look like a real effort to me. (I guess I wanted City of Heroes fans to actually save their game; they tried!) Anyway, here is the announcement as plain as it is on NCSoft website.
City of Heroes® Players and Fans,
We wanted to let you know that your voices have been heard and your concerns have been taken into serious consideration. We appreciate the overwhelmingly constructive and positive messages in the emails, notes, and packages you've sent in support of the game. It has not been an easy decision for us to close Paragon Studios® and prepare to shut down City of Heroes. We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful. City of Heroes has a special place in all of our hearts, and we want to ensure its reputation and the memories we share for the game end on a high note.
Once again, we will be holding events throughout the process of preparing for the game's end, and we encourage players and fans of the franchise to join forces and enjoy their time in a game that we've enjoyed supporting for more than eight years.
