Star Trek Online: February Answers Reveal More Plans

Cryptic has released the latest addition to the monthly Questions & Answers session: Ask Cryptic. If you're a fan of the game, Ask Cryptic must be a fantastic read and possibly the best way to learn developer's plans for the near future and ask your own questions and offer your own ideas. While Star Trek Online's May update is going to offer a lot, there are a lot of other features that players have been asking for. We have summarized this month's QA for you. Star Trek Online: Ask Cyrptic February reveal plans for 2013

This is a short summary of some of the interesting questions and answers we have spotted in the latest addition to Star Trek Online's Ask Cryptic. We have skipped most of the negative answers and some very non-specific feature requests and promises but you read the whole thing here.

• Reputation ranks will remain per character but there will be new rewards based on character progress.
• Character creation system is going to undergo some changes in May. Character Creation UI will be revamped and developers have condensed the process down to Race & Class, Appearance and Background.
• And perhaps one of the most popular questions: Will there be a Romulan faction in May? The answer is not definite but it is very unlikely.
  If you're a lifetime subscriber, you are probably looking to get some extra benefits. Good news! Not too many details but there will be some rewards for lifetime subs.

• Another very good question was regarding the lack of more strategical elements in Star Trek Online. The player gave examples of other MMOs like Battlestar Galactica Online and World of Tanks where players can claim the control of a territory and underlined the lack of such strategical elements in STO. It looks like developers agree with this and we will see something in the future. No details on this either.
  How about Earth pets? Like Data had a cat and Archer had a dog, there will be Earth pets in a future update. (possibly the May update too or even sooner).
• Portuguese speaking fans will be glad to find out that there is a Brazilian Portuguese localization in plans.
• May update will also introduce a new type of gear that will use a socketing feature.
• Another fan-requested feature is the ability to cancel Reputation projects and this is coming soon but only limited to some projects... There are also higher level content and ranks later this year. (Again, no certain date.)
