Wildstar's Combat Telegraphs Make Combat Fun
From the day we first heard about Carbine Studios' new MMO project, we knew it was going to be a unique game. When they first announced the title Wildstar and released the debut video, it looked great and it looked unique. Today, Carbine published this new video that showcases one of the unique features of the game in terms of combat; The Telegraphs. Telegraphs are red regions you will see in Wildstar during PvE and PvP combat. Read on to see how Telegraphs works in the new video.
Wildstar Telegraphs make Combat More Fun
Other than a few MMO's I find combat in MMO's rather boring and repetitive. I usually feel like all I do is hit the keys in a certain order, hit one key and then another while I wait for the other attack-key to complete its cool-down. Unless the game offers new dungeons and new monsters frequently, it gets repetitive and boring. Combat needs more challenge and it needs more variety. In this new Wildstar video, I see that the developers at Carbine have been trying to address these problems.
Make Combat more fun and add more variety so it doesn't repeat itself as the player levels up.
If you watch the video below, you will see the Telegraphs in Wildstar. These telegraphs are the red regions shown during combat in Wildstar. The red regions indicate where you enemy will attack. Depending on your skills and abilities, you can either elude the attack by exiting this region or you can counter it. The fun part, from what we have seen in the video, these telegraphs change from monster to monster. This means, if you are facing a giant bee, it might have a large circle of Telegraph that will be covered with honey in a second and that honey will slow you down. It gets even random at higher levels ad developers wanted to avoid players from learning Telegraph patterns. Some of the telegraphs you see in the video are even dynamic. They move as you move and it takes more than just a quick dodge to elude them.
Telegraphs will also play a role in PvP combat in Wildstar. Players will have to watch out for friendly and enemy Telegraphs as they try to survive the battlefield. We're going to have to wait and see how this works out in game but it does look promising and Wildstar developers seem to be on the same page with players like myself who's getting bored of the classic combat in MMO's.
