CSI: ArcheAge

in Archeage Online, News

Archeage Criminal SystemWe all do bad things in MMOs at times. Oh, don't tell me you always behave. And we usually get away with it and what's the worst that can happen to us? ArcheAge's Criminal System is about to change all that. The Criminal System features crime points that will be used against you when you kill someone from your own faction or steal resources from other players. When the crime score goes over 50, then you are in trouble, seriously... Continue reading to find out more.

ArcheAge: Criminal System, Jail Time, Crime Points and Blood Splatter...

No this is not Dexter, it's not CSI series either. This is ArcheAge which happens to come up with a really interesting game feature: Crime System. ArcheAge's Crime System is going to force the hands of ill mannered players. When they kill someone from the same faction, or when they steal plants or livestock from someone else, they will leave blood splatter traces or footprints behind. These traces will be collected by the careful eyes and will be used against these criminals. (What are we talking about?)

So these crime points wil add up and once the criminal exceeds 50 crime points, they will need to be careful. If they die, they will be take to the court for a trial. And just like a real life trial, there will be a jury of five random members to decide on the criminal's future.

The verdict will depend on the criminal's background. Jury members will be able to view his/her prior crime cases and then they will come up with a final verdict. For instance; a player with over 100 crime cases (12 pages) can be sent to jail for up to 264 minutes. On the contrary, if his crime score is low he will be sent to jail for only 48 minutes.

Disgrace Score?

Wait a minute! 48 minutes, and 264 minutes? Is that it? That's a fair question. It's relatively short but it could be awfully long to a very active player as well. This is a very unique feature and it will be exciting to see how it works out in ArcheAge and most probably in other MMOs in the future. Yes, we always have the GM's to ban players and punish them when needed but such an auto-control system that gives actual players to punish another player could work out perfectly. We will find out more in CBT 5.

In the hands of five random players...

It's also just the half of the story. When the player is sentenced he gets to spend time in jail, socialize with other inmates (probably make nasty plans for future) and play mini-games. Basically the developers give these criminals a second chance in game. Otherwise one would just logout and wait until the punishment was over. This way, players still stay in game and keep themselves entertained. There are mini games like soccer and box-smashing. Sounds fun? Well, it doesn't take much to get yourself locked up! You can even try to escape from jail too! ArcheAge Criminal System is really a unique feature that we are looking to   see in practice. ArcheAge Closed Beta 6 will begin in China in May 2013.
