MechWarrior Online's Frozen City and Dynamic Weather

In this new developer video, MechWarrior Online developers reveal the Frozen City region. As cold as it is, the dynamic weather effects in game makes life harder for you and your vehicle. Dynamic weather means, it could be crystal clear when you enter the region, and it doesn't mean it will stay like that. You should always be ready for the worst case scenario where you would have limited vision. When your vision is blocked, on-screen indicators will help you find your way. You can also get help from your team mates but it's a good idea to understand what the indicators mean and how you'd use them.

In many MMO's we see static weather conditions. The last time I played Red 5's shooter game Firefall, the dynamic weather had added a lot to the game. In MechWarrior Online's case, it looks more dynamic than anything else. It doesn't only affect your vision but it also affects your MechWarrior. As Frozen City makes it harder for you, by limiting your vision, it actually gives you an advantage too. With cold weather, it takes longer for your Mech to heat up, allowing longer battles. However, with the ice, you will need to calculate the traction as it will affect your Mech's movement.

As far as we can tell from the video, dynamic weather in MechWarrior Online is far beyond something only visual. It also affects your Mech's dynamic properties, as heat and traction are among the variables. This is going to be really interesting to see how this works out in practice.
