Star Trek Online Season 6 Starbase screenshots

Star Trek Online will introduce the player Starbases feature soon with the new Season 6. This new feature will, for the first time, allow players to create their own Starbases. STO's lead artist Jeremy Mattson has posted about the design process along with some artwork and screenshots. Read on.

As Season 6 is coming, Star Trek Online developers have added a new feature to the Sci-Fi MMO. For the first time in STO, players will be able to acquite their own player starbase. The main station will have other science stations with comm arrays, fabrication facitlities, shipyards and ship traffic around them. These will all become available soon when Season 6 arrives. According to Jeremy Mattson, they were inspired by Earth Spacedock, which is basically a mushroom shape with saucer on top. The team then did some brainstorming and looked at different space stations. The team extended their research as they knew Star Trek's history was long enough to give them a lot of ideas. It was all there and they took advantage of it.

Then the team decided on Starbase Tiers. Finally, there are 5 tiers. 5 bases and each base needs to feel like an extension of the previous one.

The first tier is a tiny little base but it's your tiny little base. Over time the Fleet upgrades the base and it grows and grows until finally at tier 5 it is big and majestic. Not too big and majestic though, we didn't want player fleets to actually out do Starfleet.
