Celebrate TERA's f2p success with big monsters
Free to play often works for companies who transform a top MMORPG from a suıbscription model. We have seen many titles choosing this path and growing its user base drastically. The latest addition was TERA. EN Masse's highly popular before relese but not so popular after release MMORPG had been suffering with a drop in number of subscribers in 2012. It might have been because of other mega titles around the same times or some other reasons but it was not working for En Masse.
The company made the decision and they transformed TERA into a free to play game. And that was the best thing that happened to the game. TERA's European publisher announced the goods new last week; that TERA had over 500k new European members since the free to play launch. Today we find out about the North American numbers and it's even better. 1.4 million players are active in North America.
En Masse's CEO Chris Lee is very proud of the results. He said : "“We’ve been blown away by the waves of players logging into TERA, and we’re seeing amazing growth in both registrations and daily users. It’s always great to eclipse the one-million-player mark, and at our current rate, it won’t be long before we hit two million. This success is pushing En Masse even harder to deliver more content and improve our service, so stay tuned!”
If this trend continues, TERA will definitely have over two million players soon. Who knows if this is going to save the future of the MMORPG but it's surely something to build on. En Masse has already started building on as the developers have already added new features to the game.
These new features are:
- Epic, high-level Crucible of Flame dungeon.
- The Champions’ Skyring 3v3 PvP battle arena.
- New game servers,
finally the upcoming features:
- a 20-person raid for hardcore players, an expansive 20v20 battleground.
- The all new player-driven alliance system, scheduled for summer 2013.
