The End of The War Z

Just a few weeks ago, we were writing about the early success of the zombie MMO The War Z. It all turned upside down since last week when Valve decided to ban the MMO from its distribution network Steam. Following the banishment from Steam, there has been claims of fraud and Steam has also been refundings its customers who had purchased the game. Today, The War Z trademark application has been suspended by US Patents and Trademark Office. Continue reading to find out why the application has been refused.

The War Z Trademark Suspended

It's getting worse for The War Z and its developer Hammerpoint. First, they got banned from Steam as many customers complained that the product was not complete and it didn't even have the features that the description of the product on Steam suggested. After so many complaints, Valve removed the game from Steam and offered refunds to unhappy customers. You can read the full story of The War Z Banishment from Steam in our previous report here.

Today, UNITED STATES PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE (USPTO) suspended the trademark application for The War Z. For those who are unfamiar with the trademark process, once you apply for a trademark, the office reviews the application and looks for closely matching trademarks that were registered before the application. This is exactly why they have refused the application for The War Z. The review which you can see here, shows that the name was close to World War Z by Paramount Pictures. It's a movie with Brad Pitt in it. You can see the trailer below if you are curious. So what's going to happen next? It's most likely that Hammerpoint will have to change the title of the game as it's rarely seen that US Patents and Trademark Office reconsiders a refused application.
